But, in the world at large, progressive values are in peril. The planet’s temperature – and global sea levels – are rising. The gap between rich and poor is growing. Folk rely on foodbanks in one of the world’s wealthiest nations .
It’s clear that society’s problems can’t (or won’t) be addressed by the political classes. That’s why business has to take the lead. That’s why we’ve decided to join the movement for change.
BECOMING A B CORP
To become a certified B Corp, we underwent a rigorous process, starting with the B Impact Assessment. Our entire environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance was measured. This included the impact we have on employees and communities, and our policies on accountability and transparency.
By balancing profit with purpose, we believe business can be a force for good. Last year, we published our book ‘Dare to Care’, a guide to help businesses operate more sustainably. It debunks myths and highlights examples of best practice to follow. For smart businesses, sustainability is a growth opportunity.
DOING WELL BY DOING GOOD
As a B Corp, we believe in an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy. We strive to make a positive impact on society and the environment through our work.
The B Corp Declaration of Interdependence states.
– That we must be the change we seek in the world.
– That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.
– That, through their products, practices and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.
– To do so requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent on another and thus responsible for each and other future generations.
On this fragile planet, and in our daunted communities, we all rely on each other for our future wellbeing. The ‘greed is good’ mentality is unsustainable, especially when climate change poses an existential threat to our way of life. We need to shift our thinking away from individualism and act together. As part of the B Corp movement, we can help protect our planet and create a fairer, more prosperous future.
